NCAA Division I Men & Women

Notre Dame (14-5-5) fell 1-0 in the first overtime to Wake Forest in the Elite 8, ending their national title bid.  The Deamon Deacons were able to hold Joseph Lapira to only 3 shots, after he had three point games in both their 2-0 win over Santa Clara and 2-1 win over Oakland.  Notre Dame lost 2-0 in the Big Ten Tournament finals, but earned the number 10 seed in the NCAA tournament.   Lapira, last year's Mac Hermann winner, was named to the First Team all-BIG EAST.  He leads his team in goals (9) and assists (10) and is again in the running for the Mac Hermann award.

Georgia (18-4-2) and freshman Caroline Burlingame (McGehee, NOSA) dropped a tough 1-0 decision to a tough Duke team in the second round of the NCAA tournament.  They defeated Alabama A&M 6-1 in round one.  The bulldogs fell to Florida in the finals of the SEC tournament, and entered the NCAA tournament  with a number 3 seed.

LSU (12-5-7) won the SEC West and topped Samford in the first round of the NCAA tournament, in Tallahassee - BOTH FIRSTS for the program!   Roslyn Jones scored the only goal of the match in the second overtime.  In the second round, Florida State beat LSU 4-0.  The tigers fell 1-0 in the second overtime to the eventual champs, Florida, in the SEC Tournament Semi Finals.  The LSU roster boasts 9 Lousiana players.  Senior Sara Pollock (Lee High) was recently named to the SEC Good Works Team for her community involvement, Juniors Roslyn Jones (Fountainbleau) & Casey Crawford (St. Scholastica) have both started every game for the tigers.   The Sophomores are Sarah Benson (Baton Rouge High), Kennedy Richards (St. Thomas More) & Catherine Grubb (McKinley), and the Freshmen are Nazily Alcoser (Chapelle), Christina Boutte (U High), Amy Lester (Baton Rouge High)

Navy (13-4-4) again won the Patriot League Tournament but fell  4-0 to West Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, 11/16. Junior Goalkeeper Lizzie Barnes (Ben Franklin) has only allowed 17 goals in 20 games and was named to the 2007 MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List based on her outstanding Sophomore performance)

Texas A&M (18-5-2) and Melissa Garey (St. Amant, BRSC) bowed out of the NCAA tournament in the second round, with a disappointing loss at home to their biggest rival, Texas.  The Aggies  took a number 2 seed into the NCAA tournament and hosted the first round with a match against SF Austin on Thursday 11/15, winning 4-1.  The Aggies captured their fourth Big XII title and fell in the Conference Tournament finals to Texas the week before.  Melissa is a team captain and has earned 2nd Team All Big12 and 2nd Team  Academic All Big12 honors this year.  She ranks second on the team with 7 goals and 4 assists this year, and climbed to number 5 all time in the Aggie career scoring record book.

 

NCAA Division II Men & Women

The University of Tampa  (20-2-3) captured the national title with a 3-1 shootout win over Franklin Pierce.  The Spartans reached the Division II final four for the second consecutive year with a shoot out win over Columbus State, and knocked out Grand Valley wiht a 2-1 overtime win in the semis.  They downed Montevallo in the South Regional Final after a shutout win over Ouachita Baptist.  Nicole Murphy, a senior defender from Lafayette was named to the 2nd team All Conference.  The Spartans again won the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Tournament for the third straight year in the second minute of overtime with a goal.

Armstrong Atlantic (14-5-1) and Maggie Kennedy (St Scholastica) fell 1-2 to Lincoln Memorial in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. 

 

The University of Incarnate Word (14-3-3) and Ljubomir Kocic earned their fifth straight trip to the NCAA tournamnent with a perfect 6-0 record in the Heartland Conference.  They bowed out in round one with a 2-0 loss to Midwestern State.  Ljuboir has three goals and one assist on the year and has been named by CoSIDA to the first team Academic All-District Team. 

.Franklin Pierce (15-2-3 ) moves on to finals the Division II Tournament in a shootout after 110 minutes of scoreless soccer.  They had posted wins over LeMoyne and Mass Loyell in the New England Regional.   Willie Davis (BRSC) is an assistant coach for the Ravens

 

NCAA Division III Men & Women

The Stevens Institute of Technology (15-4-2) fell in the semifinals of their conference  champoinship.  Junior forward Meghan Tennyson (St. Scholasitca) was the team's leading scorer with 9 goals and 4 assists for 22 points.

The Stevens Institute of Technology Men (17-1-2) lost to Eastern in a shootout in the first round of the Division III Playoffs after 110 deadlocked minutes of play.  The Ducks advanced to the tournament by winning the Empire 8 conference and recording a 49 game conference unbeaten streak.  Terrance Johnson, a sophomore forward from Slidell, recieved First Team All Conference Honors & was voted the Empire 8 Tournament MVP.  He is the leading point-getter for the Ducks, accumulating 14 goals (seven game-winners) and an assist for 29 points

At the risk of missing some of our LA Players Accomplishments, the following players have been very successful, even though their teams did not reach post season play!
