This was Newman's fourth title in six title appearances under Coach Gerald Mueller, making Newman the all-time leader in
LHSAA Soccer state championships. Newman was led by Junior Dwayne Jones, a two-time All American and a member of the
U-18 U.S. National Team. Jones was later named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Louisiana. Newman defeated
St. Martin's, its district rival, who was coached by Julio Paiz. This was St. Martin's second trip to the Finals and its
second State Runner-Up title.
Loyola, coached by Shelly McMillan, reached the Semifinals for the sixth time in school history. St. Louis, coached by
Jason Oertling, made its fifth appearance in the Semifinals.
Newman's Dwayne Jones was selected to the NSCAA All-American team and was named NSCAA Louisiana Player of the Year.
This season also was the first season that I ran a webpage for high school soccer, which was
