This state final marked the first known time that two nationally ranked Louisiana teams played in the state Finals.
Jesuit entered the game ranked #3 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as defending state champs who
had only lost one game in the past two seasons. Brother Martin entered the game ranked #9 by the NSCAA and with a state
record 32 wins. Brother Martin, coached by Coach of the Year, Alan DeRitter and led by Division I MVP Nick Lambert,
was able to win and won its first title ever, and its first of back-to-back titles. Jesuit's Title appearance was its sixth
in seven years.
Barbe made it to its sixth Semifinal appearance, but once again could not make it to its first Final appearance.
Lafayette appeared in its fifth of six Semifinal appearances.
Acadiana in its first year under Coach Mark Hopkins failed to make it to the Finals for the first time since 1995-1996. Acadiana, however, would reach the Finals in
2000-2001.
Hahnville's Tim Sirmon was selected to the NSCAA Southwest All-Region Team
