Acadiana won its second straight Division I championship. Acadiana also finished the year ranked as the #3 team in the nation.
Lafayette made its first and only appearance in the state Final by winning in overtime its three games leading to the Final.
Clearly, this year was dominated by southwestern Louisiana as three of the four semifinalists were from this area.
Jesuit failed to reach the Finals for the first time since the 1992-1993 season. Barbe appeared in fourth Semifinal game.
Brother Martin lost to De La Salle in a Quarterfinal that wasdecided by a penalty kick. Moreover, one of the referees was
selected from the crowd when another referee failed to attend.
Perhaps the biggest upset in Louisiana high school soccer playoff history occurred when in the first round, #1 ranked and
undefeated Northshore, lost to Wildcard De La Salle on Feb. 14, 1998. De La Salle surprisingly made it to its fifth
Semifinal.
