Jesuit, coached by Gary Ortner, won its first state title since 1986-1987. It was also Jesuit's second title appearance
in a row. Jesuit made it to the Finals for four straight years (1994-1997). Catholic of Baton Rouge, who had won the
St. Paul's Tournament by defeating Jesuit 2-0 in the championship match continued its dominance despite losing in the Final.
It was Catholic's fifth title appearance, however, also its last to date. Brother Martin's arrival to its first semifinals
marked a transitional period when Brother Martin began to replace De La Salle as one of two Catholic League power
(Jesuit the other). Scotlandville made its first and only appearance in the semifinals.
